Responsibilities
  • Maintain drilling fluid properties as per drilling fluid program.
  • Provide daily reports to the drilling supervisor including the drilling fluid report, product inventory, product concentration, hydraulics and volume accounting reports.
  • Report drilling information on the daily mud report remarks, this should include (short description of the drilling operation for the report period such as, ROP, Torque, Drag, pressure, tight spots, WOB, any Over pull, cuttings amount, type, shape and size, highlight any cavings or signs of hole instability, report any difficulty in mixing, maintain properties etc.
  • Coordinate all fluid activities with the drilling supervisor and all concerned personnel.
Key Experience
  • 25 or more years total experience with major international fluids companies and / or major operators.
  • With 5 or more of those years’ experience as a country manager or a country technical manager for one of the major international fluid companies.
  • 15 or more years of those 25 years’ experience in an in-house fluid’s advisor position for a major operator or an in-house fluids consultant for a major operator (BP, ExxonMobil, Kerr-McGee, Woodside, Shell, Chevron, Arco, Texaco, Unocal, etc.).
  • Operations experience should encompass, HPHT, deep water, narrow margin drilling, extended reach drilling, significant lost circulation, underbalanced sands, toxic formation gases, understanding of bore hole instability, etc.
  • Understands and has applied minimum & maximum horizontal stress theory to optimize fluid density and bore hole stability.
  • Provides daily - benchmarking of fluid properties, costs, volumes, concentrations, drilling parameters, etc.  A daily volume report of all fluids on work boats, rigs, and vendor plants.  Also daily reports on skip / ISO tanks requirements.  And Mud Mix Documents detailing all mixing and products used at vendor plants.
  • Has experience monitoring vendor fluid and solids control equipment QAQC programs.  Along with experience in setting up operator and / or third party QAQC / Surveying operations.
  • Works with / mentors vendor fluids / equipment engineers, lab and technical support staff to improve vendor service quality by broadening their understanding of drilling and completion operations.  Provides specific expectations for the vendor engineers and technical representatives.
  • Experience in managing the drilling / completion fluid and SCE for six or more drilling rigs.
  • Able to manage, maintain, and track over 50,000 bbls of operator owned NAF, WBM and / or brine, the logistics of those fluids, and the associated inventory required.
  • Able to manage, maintain and track over 100,000 bbls of riserless or mud cap fluid, the logistics of those fluids, and the associated inventory required.
  • Experienced in developing drilling / completion fluid & equipment basis of designs for major wells or projects
  • Not only experienced in making significant improvement to the drilling / completion fluids and SCE, but also to other aspects of the drilling and completion operation.
  • Has used and understands the major international fluid company hydraulics programs to better analyze and program wells and developments.
  • Set up and managed zero discharge of WBM, NAF and the cuttings generated.
  • Experienced in developing, testing, and evaluating both technically and commercially drilling fluids, completion fluids, and SCE contracts.
  • Understands and is experienced with various government regulations and requirements governing drilling fluids, completion fluids, the associated products, and the testing of those fluids.
HSE Requirements Contractors must demonstrate total adherence to client HSE requirements, including but not limited to:
  • Proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Active participation in stop programs.
  • Participation in all HSE meetings.
  • Adherence to all HSE reporting requirements.
